PANOLA COUNTY, Miss.–A former employee of Panola County was sentenced to serve one day in prison for stealing county money. Carvelle Russell received that sentence Monday.
Russell, though, was ordered to pay a $1,100 fine and to pay back nearly $10,000 to the county.
It was uncovered through the help of the state auditor’s office that Russell used a county gas card to buy gas for himself from June through September 2024.
Russell will be on probation for ten years.
