SARDIS, Miss.–The former secretary and treasurer of the Sardis Fire Dept. was sentenced to ten years probation after pleading guilty to an embezzlement charge.
William Clark has admitted to scamming the city out of more than $7,000 by submitting an inflated number of emergency calls, the cost of which were paid to Clark in his position as treasurer.
Clark was also ordered to pay back $7,575, and $1,100 in fines.
“We will continue to hold the line on misuse of your tax dollars, big or small,” said State Auditor Shad White. “This is how we’ve been able to recover more money in the last seven years than any other seven-year period in the history of the Auditor’s office.”
