SARDIS, Miss.–The former water department clerk for Sardis was arrested on an embezzlement charge, announced State Auditor Shad White.
A news release from White’s office did not specify a dollar amount that Lisa Goodson is accused of taking.
Goodson is accused of taking payments from residents, keeping the money and deleting the transactions from the computer system. She faces a possible $5,000 fine if convicted.
“My office will continue to crack down on cases big and small and ensure that taxpayer money is spent properly,” said White. “As always, prosecutors must decide to take our cases and indict an individual before we make an arrest, so I’m grateful to be able to work with prosecutors around the state on cases like this.”
