CORDOVA, Tenn.–The shooting in which Ole Miss freshman and football player Corey Adams, 18, of New Orleans, was killed Saturday night, happened after a pool party, said the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
“We think that party had reached probably about a hundred or more attendees,” said a representative of the sheriff’s department during a Monday afternoon press conference.
It was after the party that attendees spread out into the street at Fern Glen Cove and that shots were fires about 10:14 Saturday night, with five people hit by bullets. Adams was being driven to the hospital in a provate vehicle, which was intercepted by deputies, who tried life-saving measures. Adams was pronounced dead by rescue personnel at the scene.
The four other people hit were taken to the hospital. Three of them have been released.
“More than 40 rounds by a rifle and a pistol were found on the scene by our detectives,” said the officer.
Adams’ mother also spoke at the press conference.
“They took a good one y’all. My son was not a bad child. He lived for football,” she said. “My child played football for Ole Miss. On his time off he just wanted to enjoy himself. He got to the pool party. The pool party was over. Ten minutes, he was walking back to the car and was killed.”
More than a dozen investigators are working on the case and no arrests were announced Monday. Detectives are asking neighbors to share video surveillance and for all of the people attending the party to tell them what they know.
