GREENVILLE, Miss.–You may have noticed gas going up in the Delta. It’s not expected to stop until the end of spring.
“Mississippi general does have some of the cheapest prices in the country,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of Petroleum Analysis for Gasbuddy.com, “right now, though, Mississippi is coming in sixth, with a state-wide average of $2.72.
The cheapest in the Delta Thursday afternoon was $2.52 at a station in Greenville.
“We’ve seen a jump from some of those cold weather-related refinery shutdowns, but also the price has been inching up on what’s been happening in the Middle East,” he said.
DeHaan said the price jump you can expect to see at the end of February will likely be seasonal, though, with a changeover to the “summer blend” of gas.
“I’m not expecting prices to be as bad as what we saw last year, but we could eventually see prices back over $3, maybe even $3.25.”
