GREENVILLE, Miss. — The Greenville City Council has approved the creation of a new customer service representative position in the city’s Water Department, aiming to improve communication and service for residents.

The measure, passed by a majority vote Tuesday, is intended to address concerns related to water billing, reduce confusion and improve overall efficiency within the department.

City officials said the new role will focus on strengthening communication with residents, providing timely assistance and enhancing customer service operations.

Mayor Errick D. Simmons said the decision comes in response to feedback from residents about water services.

“In direct response to the growing concerns voiced by our residents, we have taken decisive action to strengthen customer service within our Water Department,” Simmons said. “This position is specifically designed to improve communication, provide timely support and ensure that every resident receives the attention and clarity they deserve.”

Simmons added that the city will continue evaluating Water Department operations and make additional improvements as needed to increase transparency, accountability and service quality.

The position is now open. Applicants can contact the City of Greenville Human Resources Department for more information.
