GREENVILLE, Miss.–Firefighters are getting a raise in Greenville. That announcement was made Friday, a week after a raise for police officers was announced.

At the press conference where the raises were announced Friday morning, Fire Chief Reuben Brown also announced the city council has approved money for new equipment, including thermal imaging, which will help firefighters see through smoke and detect people who may be trapped in a burning building.
Mayor Errick Simmons said that in addition to retaining firefighters, the raises are also intended to boost morale through a show of appreciation.
“The dedication, community service, and tireless efforts of the fire department personnel in safeguarding the lives and property of Greenville’s residents are unmatched,” said Simmons.
“This initiative is a significant acknowledgment of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made by our firefighters every day. Our team is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community, often working under challenging conditions,” said Brown.
“This pay increase not only helps to ensure that our personnel are fairly compensated but also reinforces our efforts to attract and retain skilled professionals in the fire service. As we move forward, this support will enhance our department’s morale and capability, allowing us to better serve the residents of Greenville. Together, we are committed to maintaining a safe environment for everyone in our community. Thank you to all who support our mission.”
