GREENVILLE, Miss.–If you see flags at half staff in Greenville, that comes at the order of Mayor Errick Simmons, and in honor of former Pres. Jimmy Carter.
Simmons ordered the flags lowered until Carter is buried, which will be following his state funeral Jan.9.
“President Jimmy Carter was a true servant-leader whose humility, compassion, and commitment to humanity defined his life and work,” said Simmons.

“From his time as the 39th President of the United States to his decades of humanitarian efforts with Habitat for Humanity, President Carter exemplified integrity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others.”

Carter died Sunday at 100.
