GREENVILLE, Miss. — A Greenville man has been arrested and charged with arson following a house fire reported early March 21, authorities said.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department responded around 7 a.m. to a call in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue regarding a residential fire. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowner, who said he was able to extinguish the fire before emergency personnel arrived.

The homeowner told police he reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed a suspect spraying an unknown accelerant on the east side of the residence and setting it on fire.
Witnesses later identified the individual in the video as 34-year-old Johnny Grandison of Greenville, according to authorities.

Grandison was taken into custody and charged with arson. He is being held at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility pending his initial court appearance.

The Greenville Fire Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
