Greenville Mayor Encourages Residents to Prepare for Extremely Cold Temperatures

GREENVILLE, Miss.–Wrap your pipes so they don’t bust, is the message from Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons. He put that message on Facebook Wednesday, anticipating what is expected to be extreme cold Monday and Tuesday.

Predictions from the National Weather Service indicate they expect, at the very least, weather that could bust those exposed pipes. But, it is still too early to tell for sure if the Delta will get snowfall or freezing rain or sleet, or when that could happen.

“Be prepared for surprises with a winter weather kit for your vehicle,” said MDOT Spokesperson David Kenny, in a video released Wednesday on Twitter. Kenny said your kit should contain a windshield scraper, a flashlight with extra batteries, jumper cables, a first aid kit, blankets, a cell phone charger, water and snacks, and emergency flares.

“Keep the kit with you in case a sudden snow causes delays or an accident causes crashes,” he said. “The kit can give you comfort and may even save your life.”
