Greenville Officials Discuss Need for Garbage Trucks and Lawnmowers

GREENVILLE, Miss.–Greenville may have a problem with inadequate numbers of garbage trucks and lawnmowers. Both were discussed at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Some residents might see their trash piling up because the city is down to two garbage trucks, with two in the shop, said the city’s director of Public Works.
“We’re scheduled to pick one of those garbage trucks up, one of those that is down, from the shop Thursday. So, next week we should be fine on the garbage side,” said Jermaine Thornton.
He said his crews are having to work extra so they can collect all of the trash, including overtime on weeknights and five hours Saturday.
At the same meeting Parks and Res Director Cassandra McMillan told the mayor her department only has one zero turn lawn mower to get the entire job accomplished, which makes the work slow and patchy. She said the one they have came from the airport, a generous donation, but it has mechanical issues.
She said her department has repeatedly requested mowers as part of the city budget.
