Greenville Parks Commission Puts Moratorium on Raising Event Rates

GREENVILLE, Miss.–If you’ve been following the story about plans for Greenville Parks to significantly raise rates for events at city parks, that’s not going to happen any time soon. Their plans were quashed when the Parks Commission decided to put a moratorium on raising those rates at a meeting this week.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the Greenville Park Commission for their thoughtful decision to place a moratorium on the recent price increases for park facilities,” said Mayor Errick D. Simmons, who strongly opposed the rate increase.
“This action demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring our parks remain accessible to all residents, regardless of income. By pausing these increases, we can work together to find a balanced solution that meets the financial needs of our parks while preserving the affordability and inclusiveness that our community values,” said Simmons.
The Parks Commission may decide that a rate increase can happen if it becomes necessary for the operation and maintenance of the parks.
