Greenville Parks Commission to Appoint New Director Amid Past Controversy

SHARE NOW
GREENVILLE, Miss.–The City of Greenville Parks Commission is expected to hire a director for its troubled Parks Commission Wednesday.
According to the agenda for a special called meeting set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Buster Brown Community Center, the hiring of a director will be considered.
Last year the Greenville city council issued a vote of no confidence and cut loose its entire Parks Commission when they decided to rehire Corey Holmes, a former director who had been fired because of a failed Juneteenth celebration that caused financial damage and put the city at risk for being sued.
The city was on the hook for paying artists and a sound technician that had not been paid for the performance.
The Parks Commission was also let go for repeated violations of the Open Meetings Act.
