GREENVILLE, Miss. — A 19-year-old Greenville man has been arrested following a shooting outside a Hibbett Sports store near a busy shopping area Saturday morning, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Officers were dispatched around 11:50 a.m. to the 1800 block of Highway 1 South after reports of a shooting in front of the Hibbett Sports store. When officers arrived, they secured the scene and learned that a male victim had already been transported by private vehicle to Delta Health Systems for treatment.
Witnesses told police the shooting stemmed from an argument between individuals at the location. Authorities said the victim, a 17-year-old male, was shot three times and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators quickly identified and arrested Keegan Williams, 19, of Greenville in connection with the shooting. Williams is charged with attempted murder, possession of a machine gun and misdemeanor possession of an MDMA pill.
Greenville Police Chief Marcus Turner said the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Police said additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
