GREENVILLE, Miss.–The City of Greenville is doing better financially this year than last, said the city’s financial consultant, at this week’s city council meeting.
The consultant reported that most departments are “holding their own” as far as revenue intake goes, with the Greenville Mid-Delta Regional Airport being a highlight.
“Airport is up. We finally caught up on all the collections there. They’re up over $15,000 from last year,” he said.
Airport Executive Director Levell Hawkins confirmed that the airport is doing better.
“We had a ag operation that worked out of the airport for a little while and I think they increased their numbers from last year. This is something they do every year,” he said.
Mayor Errick Simmons requested that Hawkins prepare a presentation on the next steps in the transition from the current airport carrier to Denver Air Connection, which is expected to happen in the next several months.
The airport is the largest in the Delta and the only one with such regional passenger service.
In total, the city’s revenue was $8.7 million more than last year, which Simmons attributed to departments doing a good job controlling spending.
