GREENWOOD, Miss.–Greenwood will not have a curfew for now, with the city council voting Tuesday in the first meeting under the new administration, to turn down Mayor Kendrick Cox’s request for one.

The council also turned down his request for a state of emergency, despite acknowledging the problem of violent crime.

Cox also had appointments for a new police chief, fire chief and director of public works, which were all shot down by the council.

Cox will have to resubmit new names for each position.
