CLARKSDALE, Miss.–The heat advisory issued Sunday by the National Weather Service has been extended through Wednesday for Delta counties.
High temperatures are expected to reach 95 Tuesday and 97 Wednesday, with heat index values possibly surpassing 105 degrees.
In addition to hydrating and staying inside, if you can, David Cox, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, also reminds you to make sure that your loved ones are safe.
“I know one of the things with the heat that we always have to recognize is check your vehicles,” he said. “Make sure no one is in hot vehicles.”
Temperatures rise quickly inside cars and cars quickly kill a small child or pet who can’t get out and can’t get cool.
Cox also said to learn the signs of heat stroke. Those can include a rise in core temperature, flushed skin, rapid breathing, nausea, and a change in the way you sweat or sweating having ceased, though it is extremely hot.
