House Discusses Resolution that may Allow Members to Carry Firearms

JACKSON, Miss.–Alcoholic beverages may be allowed at the state Capitol, if a House Resolution passed overwhelmingly Thursday becomes law. The resolution would also allow members of the legislature to bring guns into the building and onto the Capitol grounds.
“We are taking away the prohibition to bring firearms, allowing floor members to bring firearms into the Capitol,” asked Rep. Bryant Clark of Holmes County, while discussing the resolution, which also included other changes in the way legislation is considered and passed.
“And, I think you have a logical, good reason we’re opening our Capitol, not only the building, but the grounds to having liquor, wine and spirits here, correct?” asked Clark.
The discussion on the House floor did not make those reasons clear.
