Icy conditions cause widespread outages for Entergy Mississippi customers

JACKSON, Miss. — More than 55,000 Entergy Mississippi customers were without power late Sunday as severe winter weather moved through the state, affecting communities from Southaven to Natchez.

The outages were reported as of 9:30 p.m. Sunday after ice and winter conditions impacted Entergy Mississippi’s service area on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24 and 25. Utility officials said icy road conditions and travel safety concerns have slowed restoration efforts in some areas.

Entergy Mississippi has begun assessing damage and restoring power where it is safe for crews to do so. Due to hazardous travel conditions, the company is not holding an in-person news conference and is instead providing updates through a video message from Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly.

According to the company, the updates address customer safety, the impact of ice on the power grid and the power restoration process. Entergy is also providing b-roll video to support the information being shared.
As of Sunday night, no estimated time of restoration had been announced, as crews continue to assess damage and prioritize areas with the highest number of customers without power.
