On January 2, 2024, at the commencement of the new Legislative Session, the Mississippi House of Representatives elected Jason White as the state’s 62nd Speaker of the House. A unanimous vote, supported by 122 members, solidified White’s position.
Speaker White, who has represented District 48 encompassing Attala, Carroll, Holmes, and Leake counties since 2012, previously served as Speaker Pro Tempore alongside Speaker Philip Gunn after his election in 2019. The Republican Caucus, holding a two-thirds majority in the chamber, nominated White for the Speaker of the House position on December 5, 2023.
