LAKE CORMORANT, Miss.–A K-9 officer was shot while police were trying to capture a man who they had been chasing Wednesday. DeSoto County deputies then shot and killed the suspect.
The car chase ended near the DeSoto/Tunica County line on Hwy. 61, said a news release from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the agency looking into the shooting. The K-9 officer was released once the man bailed from the car deputies said the man shot the dog before being shot.
It was unclear why deputies were chasing him.
Action News 5 in Memphis reported that family members ID’d the man killed as Jamarcus Brown, 38.
While no human officers were hurt, the K-9 officer was seriously injured and was taken to a veterinary hospital.
