DREW, Miss.–The police chief in Drew faces a serious felony charge of aggravated assault after a grand jury indicted him last week in DeSoto County. But, the district attorney there is being less than generous with the information that informed that grand jury’s decision.
The incident that led to the indictment happened at a Southaven seafood restaurant in 2022.
A confrontation escalated and led to gunfire. That’s about the extent of the description provided.
Yet, District Attorney Matthew Barton says his office is committed to accountability for all.
“This indictment demonstrates our commitment to holding everyone accountable under the law, regardless of their position. No one is above the law, and the integrity of our legal system demands that we address misconduct wherever it is found,” said a statement from Barton’s office.
“We trust the legal process will reveal the truth, and we will continue to pursue justice in an impartial and thorough manner,” he said.
