MOORHEAD, Miss. — Mississippi Delta Community College’s Moorhead campus was placed on lockdown Monday after reports of an armed individual on campus, according to college officials.
Campus police received an unconfirmed report that someone on campus may have been armed, prompting the lockdown as law enforcement searched the grounds.

The lockdown was lifted after the suspect was apprehended in Belzoni, officials said. No injuries were reported.
MDCC later confirmed the individual was not affiliated with the college but was found on campus in possession of a handgun.
“This type of behavior has no place on our college campuses and will not be tolerated,” MDCC President Steven J. Jones said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors remain our highest priority.”

Jones praised the swift response of law enforcement and the leadership of MDCC Police Chief Charlie Dones. He also commended students for quickly reporting the suspicious activity, saying their actions “played a critical role in keeping our campus safe.”

The president added that the college will continue to strengthen safety measures and urged the community to remain vigilant.
