HERNANDO, Miss.–A now ex-jailer has been locked up on charges he helped Joshua Zimmerman escape the DeSoto County courthouse in June.
Ronnie Hunt, 32, was arrested Saturday and fired.
Hunt is charged with providing tools to help Zimmerman, who was captured last week after an all-day standoff in Chicago.
During a press conference last week, held while Zimmerman was still barricaded inside a Chicago restaurant, DeSoto County Chief Deputy Justin Smith said the department was anxious to have Zimmerman back in custody so they could talk with him and get information on how he managed to get away.
Hunt is now housed in the Lafayette County Jail and the investigation into the escape by multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi Office of the Attorney General, continues.
