Mayor Errick D. Simmons Announces Expected Delays in Garbage and Trash Pick-Up Due to COVID-19

Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the City of Greenville have several employees in various city departments who have tested positive, including three (3) garbage truck drivers. Given the shortage of drivers, Greenville residents should expect delays in garbage and trash pick-up.

Mayor Simmons states, “We respectfully ask our residents to be understandably patient with the upcoming delays given the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in our city. Greenville is not unique in service delays we are seeing around the state and country caused by employees and staff being out for Covid. Please know we are doing everything possible to timely provide municipal services under these circumstances.”

The announcement comes just one day after announcing enhanced safety measures due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 for City-owned buildings requiring temperature checks of anyone entering or working in City-owned buildings and requiring masks for anyone working and entering City-owned buildings. Further, city employees are required to wear masks in the buildings in which they work; and, all residents, visitors, and attendees are required to wear masks to any city events being held.
