MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — Mayor Leighton Aldridge is calling on Mound Bayou residents to take proactive steps to improve safety in their homes and neighborhoods.
In a public message released Saturday, the mayor emphasized the importance of installing home security systems — including Ring doorbells, motion-activated cameras or other tools — to help deter suspicious activity and gather valuable evidence when needed.
“Visibility and peace of mind go a long way,” the mayor said.
The mayor also encouraged residents to turn on their porch lights each evening, noting that well-lit streets send a clear signal that the community is alert and united in preventing crime.
In addition to technology and lighting, the mayor stressed the importance of neighbor-to-neighbor vigilance. Residents are urged to report unusual activity and regularly check in on neighbors, especially seniors and those living alone.
“Safety is a shared responsibility,” the message reads. “When we each do our part, we all benefit.”
