MOORHEAD, Miss. — Mississippi Delta Community College has received a $499,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation to expand its Prison Education Program across all five participating correctional facilities, the college announced this week.
The three-year grant will support expanded academic services, strengthened course offerings and increased access to degree pathways for incarcerated students. College officials said the investment will help deepen the program’s impact and ensure more students inside correctional institutions have the opportunity to pursue higher education.
MDCC leaders praised the award as a transformative partnership that advances the college’s commitment to educational equity.
“We are grateful for this support and proud of the dedicated leaders and faculty who make this work possible,” the college said in a statement.
The Prison Education Program currently serves multiple facilities across the region and is part of MDCC’s continuing efforts to improve educational access and workforce readiness throughout the Mississippi Delta.
