SOUTHAVEN, Miss.–When a DeSoto County deputy shot and killed DeMarcus Williams Aug. 30, 2023, he was within his rights to do so, said Mississippi Atty. Gen. Lynn Fitch.
According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Dept., Williams pointed a gun at deputies when they tried to serve a warrant at his house.
Williams’ girlfriend said Williams thought someone was breaking into his house when deputies broke windows and threw in smoke bombs. Deputies did not confirm those actions in the report released by Fitch’s office.
Williams had an extensive criminal history, which included murder, assault, robbery and gun and drug charges.
