MOORHEAD, Miss. — Mississippi Delta Community College is reporting a 6% increase in summer enrollment compared to last year, alongside a similarly strong turnout for fall orientation.

College officials say the rise is largely due to targeted outreach and hands-on support throughout the admissions process.

“We took an individual approach by calling, emailing, and physically walking each applicant through the process,” said Valerie Wilbert, Assistant Director of Admissions. “This could not have been done without help from departments across campus.”

Wilbert said that this year’s new student orientation also featured sessions for parents, covering topics like FERPA and how families can support student success.

Dr. Charnecca Barnes, Advising Coordinator, praised the teamwork behind both summer registration and orientation efforts. “The advising department did not do this alone. Orientation 2024 was a success. Summer registration was a success!”

Interim President Teresa Webster credited the enrollment increase to the dedication of MDCC staff, saying the college “has truly embodied the family spirit this summer.”

As Mississippi Delta Community College prepares for the fall semester, officials say they remain committed to fostering a supportive and student-focused environment.
