The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) concluded their enforcement efforts for the 2023 Independence Day Holiday Travel Period, which spanned from Monday, July 3rd at 6:00 a.m. to Tuesday, July 4th at midnight. As the holiday period came to an end, the MHP released a report detailing their activities and the outcomes observed during this time.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a total of 4,458 citations were issued to motorists throughout the enforcement period. Additionally, 49 individuals were arrested for impaired driving, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to cracking down on intoxicated driving offenses. Furthermore, 508 motorists were cited for occupant restraint violations, reflecting the MHP’s dedication to promoting seatbelt usage for enhanced safety.
During the Independence Day Travel Period, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a total of 76 crashes, resulting in 30 injuries.
Tragically, the Mississippi Highway Patrol reported four fatal crashes during the holiday period, claiming the lives of four individuals. The fatal accidents occurred in Chickasaw, Panola, Marion, and Itawamba Counties.
