On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at approximately 3:55 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 49E in Holmes County.
A 2019 Ford Mustang driven by 53-year-old Michael Montesi of Tchula, MS, traveled south on Highway 49E when the vehicle left the roadway. Michael Montesi received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at approximately 3:04 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 49W in Humphreys County.
A 2017 Hyundai Sonata driven by 38-year-old Laurie Hawkins of Anguilla, MS, traveled south on Highway 49W when it collided with a 2020 Nissan Murano driven by 60-year-old Larry Collins of Belzoni, MS, attempting a left turn onto Logger Lake Rd. Larry Collins received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
