JACKSON, Miss.–Schools that have had less money historically, will get more money, if the new education formula works as planned. It was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Tate Reeves.
The new formula replaces the decades-old Mississippi Adequate Education Program, often criticized because the amount of money received by districts was rarely considered adequate.
The new plan is excepted to provide about $250 million per year more than the old formula, across the state.
The new law is called the Mississippi Student Funding Formula.
