Icy roads are still a problem in north Mississippi, including some Delta counties. That may not improve significantly over the weekend as another arctic air mass will settle in starting Friday, but especially Friday night.

“A blast of arctic air, maybe not quite as cold as the last one, but we could see temperatures less than 15 degrees and highs Saturday will be at or below freezing,” said National Weather Service forecaster Dan Byrd.

He said you should also beware of night time wind chills from zero to five degrees.

Cleveland City Hall and offices remain closed Friday because of icy road conditions.

“Just having a lot of melting in the afternoons and the roads refreeze at night,” said Byrd, describing one of the problems with roads and highways. Some freezing rain was being reported in Mississippi’s northernmost counties, causing a fresh sheet of ice on the roads and more headaches for people desiring o get back to normal functions.
