MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — In the wake of recent violence during the Easter holiday, Mound Bayou’s mayor is calling on residents, faith leaders and community members to come together in prayer and unity, while also sharing new details about an upcoming community march.

In a message to pastors, educators, parents and local leaders, the mayor announced plans for a Community Prayer March set for Saturday, April 11, from 9:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. The march will begin at City Hall and continue to Taborian Hospital.
City leaders are encouraging churches, organizations and especially young people to take part in the gathering, which will include prayer, reflection, music and brief messages of encouragement.

“Mound Bayou was founded as a faith-based community, with the church serving as its first and most foundational institution,” the mayor said in the statement. “It is essential that we reaffirm this legacy and allow faith to lead us forward during this critical time.”

The mayor is also inviting community leaders to share short messages during the event focused on healing, hope and unity.
Beyond the march, city officials say more work is needed to address the root causes of violence. The mayor is calling for increased mentorship, counseling and stronger engagement with families and young people.

Plans are also in motion to bring community stakeholders together for a larger discussion on how to strengthen spiritual guidance and develop coordinated efforts to support residents.

City leaders say the prayer march is not just about gathering, but about taking the first step toward rebuilding a stronger, more connected Mound Bayou.
