MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — The Mound Bayou Civic Club will host the community’s 139th annual Founders’ Day observance Sunday, July 12.
The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mound Bayou, 301 N. West Main St.
The event will honor Mound Bayou’s history and legacy under the theme, “Honoring Our Past. Celebrating Our Present. Building Our Future.”
Organizers say the observance will celebrate 139 years of faith, perseverance, unity and self-determination in the historic Mississippi Delta community.
Citizens, former residents, families and friends are invited to attend and help honor the community’s founders.
Mayor Leighton Aldridge extended greetings and congratulations to the Mound Bayou Civic Club and the community ahead of the celebration.
Mound Bayou was established in 1887 and is recognized for its historic significance as an all-Black incorporated community.
