CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Orlando Paden is the unofficial winner of the mayor’s race in Clarksdale, receiving 1,566 votes, compared to 1,149 votes for Scotty Meredith. Incumbent Mayor Chuck Espy was not running for another term.
Meanwhile other cities and towns around the Delta also held municipal general elections for mayor and alderman Tuesday.
In Greenwood, it appears that Kenderick Cox has been elected mayor, replacing incumbent Carolyn McAdams.
“I want to sincerely thank every single person who voted today and supported my campaign for re-election. Serving as Mayor of Greenwood has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement, friendship, and trust so many of you have shown me throughout this campaign,” said McAdams in a Facebook post before the unofficial election results had been counted completely.
“I also want to thank Kenderick Cox for a well-fought race and for his willingness to step forward in service to our wonderful community. Running for office is never easy, and I commend him and his team for their efforts.”
In the race for mayor of Belzoni, Eula Davis beat Terrance Hurssey, Sr., with 52 percent of the vote.
In Rolling Fork all three mayoral candidates were independents, with Eldridge Walker taking the seat with 52 percent of the vote, defeating Anthony White and Angela Hall Williams.
In Vicksburg it appears that Willis Thompson will prevail over longtime mayor and former state legislator George Flaggs, with Thompson taking 44 percent of the vote and Flaggs taking 42.5 percent.
In Shaw C. Perry Watkins is the new mayor. In Boyle it appears Tommy Taylor will take that mayoral seat.
All results are unofficial, with official results to be submitted and certified by June 13.
