GREENVILLE, Miss.–A new power plant is being built in the Delta. Entergy confirmed plans for the new natural gas power plant in early September. Now a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the building process is set for Nov. 7.
Gov. Tate Reeves and Rep. Bennie Thompson are two of the politicians expected to attend.
The new plant will be the first new plant constructed in the Delta in half a century, replacing the Gerald Andrus Steam Plant.
The advanced facility will be the first combined-cycle combustion turbine power station the company has built from the ground up, said a news release from Entergy.
“As our customers’ needs and environmental factors evolve, so must our fleet. We’re investing in cleaner, more efficient power generation now, to help us keep bills lower for customers than they otherwise would be in the future,” said Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi.
The plant construction will likely mean temporary construction jobs for the next three years.
