GREENVILLE, Miss.–Only one tornado touchdown was reported with the storm system that came through Monday night, and the National Weather Service will be surveying that damage later today in Clinton. But, the Delta did get some high winds and record heavy rainfall.
“2.83 was the record rainfall,” said Mike Edmunston, senior forecaster with the National Weather Service, Jackson office. That was for March 25, at the Greenville airport. “And the old record was 2.55 back in 2009.”
In addition to the record rainfall several high wind gusts were reported at the Greenwood airport and in Yazoo City. Those high winds were not associated with the line of thunderstorms, but rather were ahead of the line and were in excess of 50 mph.
Power outages were reported in several areas around the state. But, most of it was concentrated in the area where the suspected tornado was reported.
