COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss. — A 33-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Lula Road, according to the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said deputies responded to an emergency call at approximately 6:36 p.m. reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The caller indicated the driver remained at the scene.

When deputies arrived, they found Spencer Welch near the roadway. Personnel from Coahoma County Fire & Rescue and Pafford Emergency Services began lifesaving efforts, but Welch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the driver told deputies he did not see Welch while traveling home on Lula Road. A passenger in the vehicle provided a similar account, stating they did not see the pedestrian prior to the collision. Officials said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.

The crash remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office thanked first responders, the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office and residents of Lula for their assistance.

Authorities urged motorists to use caution when traveling in the area, particularly during nighttime hours.
