SARDIS, Miss.–Sardis Police Chief Christopher Franklin has resigned, and two officers followed his lead, leaving the city with four cops. The reason he gave in a resignation letter was low pay for the officers.
In Sardis, patrolmen make $17 an hour.
“I will be resigning from the Sardis Police Department. Due to the lack of funding, it has become impossible to safely staff the police department and keep the citizens safe,” Franklin wrote in a resignation letter published in the Panolian newspaper.
John Lantern is now serving as police chief.
