Potential Flooding is a Threat to the Delta

CLEVELAND, Miss.–In addition to the possibility of severe weather, flooding will be a threat for the next couple of days in the Delta.
“In addition to the chance for severe storms in our area,  there will also be the chance for flooding. There’s a lot of excess moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico and the tropics over the next couple of days,” said Nicholas Fenner, forecaster with the National Weather Service Jackson office.
Much of Mississippi picked up a substantial amount of rainfall Monday evening. In addition, people in the Holcomb area were dealing with downed power lines along Hwy. 8.
While the threat for damaging wind, hail and possibly a tornado remain for Tuesday, Tuesday night and especially Wednesday, Fenner said the rainfall will be pron to cause flooding.
“We are looking potentially at four to seven inches of rain over the northern half of the state,” he said.
That could cause both flash flooding and river flooding.
