GREENWOOD, Miss.–Delta counties are going to be some of the hottest in Mississippi this week, with a heat advisory in effect for Monday with a high expected at 102 and a heat index possibly at 109.

But, Tuesday may actually be the hottest day of the week.

“It looks like we’ll see a pattern change by the end of the week. Tuesday looks to be the hottest day. We may even see a record high temperature around Greenwood,” said Mike Edmunston, lead forecaster with the National Weather Service Jackson office.

He said the record could be broken “If we hit the lower 100s, I think the forecast is for 103 at Greenwood and it (the record) may be 102.”

But, record high temperatures and humidity make it dangerous to be outside for long periods of time without breaks and cooling and plenty of hydration.

The pattern change expected Thursday, is for slightly cooler highs and the possibility for rain.
