GREENWOOD, Miss.–Severe storms are expected in two waves in the Delta. Those could include large hail, strong winds and tornadoes.

An enhanced risk in the Delta Friday afternoon and Friday, means Delta counties have a3 in 5 chance for severe storms. Winds are also expected to be consistent throughout the day, with the possibility that could bring down trees.
“This lead system will be followed up very quickly by an even more potent system,” said Mike Edmunston, senior forecaster with the National Weather Service Jackson office.
That second system could begin as early as 6 Saturday morning. The strongest confidence in the strongest storms is in the Grenada, Greenwood, Indianola, Yazoo City area of the Delta.
“The severe storms in this enhanced risk area is where our greatest confidence is in damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes. A few of these tornadoes could become very strong,” said Edmunston.
He said the storms should be over by 8 Saturday night.
