GREENVILLE, Miss.–You will not be able to see the full solar eclipse in the Delta. That’s because Mississippi is not in the oath of where you will see the full effect of the moon passing in front of the sun. But, another obstacle is the weather.
“Unfortunately as far as hoping to see part of the eclipse, we do have a forecast for about 80 to 90 percent cloud cover during the afternoon,” said Nicholas Fenner, forecaster with the National Weather Service Jackson office.
Peak time for seeing the eclipse will be around 1:30 to 2 p.m, if the clouds allow.
“Even with cloud cover our peak coverage of the sun here is gonna be about 90 percent from the moon. So, it should still be very noticeably dark even if it were completely overcast,” said Fenner.
He added that you have a chance for strong storms in the Delta through Wednesday, with the best chance of seeing severe weather being Tuesday, Tuesday night and Wednesday.
“Those two days…we’ll definitely have the chance for hail. damaging winds gusts and possibly tornadoes,” he said.
