GRENADA, Miss.–Convenience stores and vape shops in Grenada County have essentially been ordered to stop selling non-prescription vape products under threat of trouble with the sheriff’s department.
The advice letter from the sheriff’s department was sent around to, or served upon, every such store in the county and city of Grenada.
“This office has determined that except for products duly licensed and regulated under the Medical Marijuana Act, any hemp products designed for and marketed for human ingestion or consumption that have received explicit approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are considered ‘controlled substances’, and are in direct violation of Mississippi state law,” read the notice.
The sheriff’s department is basing the threat on a June 11 state attorney general’s opinion about non-regulated hemp products.
The notice threatens prosecution and says all such items must be removed immediately from store shelves.
