The Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) announced today the appointment of Dr. Lance Evans, currently serving as the superintendent of the New Albany School District, as the upcoming state superintendent of education. The decision follows a meticulous national search conducted by the SBE.
Dr. Evans, a seasoned educator with 24 years of experience, is set to assume his new role on July 1, 2024, succeeding Dr. Ray Morgigno. Dr. Morgigno had been appointed interim state superintendent of education and served from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024. Dr. Evans has been at the helm of the New Albany School District since 2017, leading it to its first A-rating during the 2018-19 school year and maintaining that high standard in subsequent years. Before his tenure in New Albany, Dr. Evans held key positions in the Oxford and Itawamba County school districts.
