CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a shooting early Tuesday that left a woman with multiple gunshot wounds.
Clarksdale police officers responded to a reported shooting at about 3:20 a.m. Aug. 18, 2026. Upon arrival, officers found Jakieya Morgan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Morgan received emergency medical treatment before being transported from the scene and later airlifted to a Memphis-area hospital for further treatment.
According to statements provided by Morgan and a witness, Ladell Porter was identified as the alleged shooter.
Preliminary investigators said the incident began with a brief verbal altercation between Morgan and Porter. During the altercation, Porter allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, striking Morgan.
Porter was not located at the scene and remains at large.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about Porter’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement. Officials are urging the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend him.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Porter is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
