A distressing incident unfolded on May 20th, prompting a response from officers the Greenville Police Department. Dispatched to the 800 block of Walthall in response to a report of a person who had been shot, the officers arrived to find a tragic scene that would ultimately lead to the arrest of a suspect.
At the scene, authorities made a grim discovery. The lifeless body of 61-year-old Ernest Davis, a Greenville resident, lay on the ground. It was apparent that Davis had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Pafford Emergency Ambulance and the Washington County Coroner were called to the scene, with the coroner officially pronouncing Davis deceased.
In the wake of this incident, the Greenville Police Department launched a meticulous investigation to identify and locate the perpetrator. Their efforts culminated in the apprehension of a suspect shortly thereafter. 19-year-old Dewayne Hemphill, also a resident of Greenville, was taken into custody by law enforcement officials in connection with the murder of Ernest Davis.
Hemphill now faces formal charges related to the crime. Following established legal procedures, he was transported to the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility, where he is currently being held. Authorities have set a bond amount of $2,000,000 in relation to the charges brought against Hemphill.
