JACKSON, MS (520 PM CDT Fri Jun 5 2020) — The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southern Sunflower County in northwestern Mississippi Washington County in northwestern Mississippi Northwestern Issaquena County in west central Mississippi Humphreys County in central Mississippi Sharkey County in west central Mississippi until 630 PM CDT. At 520 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Metcalfe to near Isola, moving south at 40 mph. HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE: Radar indicated. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Severe thunderstorms will be near Belzoni around 525 PM CDT. Wayside and Murphy around 535 PM CDT. Avon and Midnight around 540 PM CDT. Glen Allan around 600 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include Mayersville, Silver City, Arcola, Cary and Louise. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
