GREENVILLE, Miss. — A traffic stop Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of a Greenville man and the recovery of suspected burglary tools, according to the Greenville Police Department.
At approximately 12:27 p.m. Sept. 2, investigators with the department’s Special Operations Division conducted a traffic stop involving a white GMC Yukon near Highway 82 and Harbor Front Road after observing multiple traffic violations.
The driver was identified as Jerry Brady Weed III. During the investigation, officers determined that Weed’s driving privileges were suspended, police said.
A subsequent K-9 open-air sniff resulted in a positive alert on the vehicle. A search of the Yukon led investigators to recover marijuana, suspected drug paraphernalia and several tools commonly associated with cutting wire, pipe and other materials, according to police.
Investigators also recovered a utility pole commonly used to operate breakers on electrical transformers. The items were turned over to the department’s Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
Weed was taken into custody and transported to the Greenville Police Department. He faces charges of felony possession of burglary tools, possession of marijuana in an amount less than 30 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended driver’s license, no insurance, no tag, careless driving and improper passing.
The investigation remains active. Police said additional charges may be considered as investigators determine whether the recovered tools are connected to recent thefts or property crimes.
